Ferrari recently unveiled two new limited-edition “Icona” vehicles, the Monza SP1 and SP2 cars, which are entirely open-topped and said to be equipped with the most powerful engine the company has ever built.

The two Monza models were inspired by the original Ferrari Barchetta, the 1947 166 MM, and the 750 and 860 Monza models, and features the most advanced technology available today, according to the luxury Italian car-maker.

Designed as a monolithic form with an aerodynamic wing profile, the cars’ most eye-catching feature is the complete absence of a roof and windshield. The lack of these very common elements came from the company’s need to create a vehicle with unique proportions, which couldn’t be possible with a traditional two-seat car.

The Ferrari Monza SP1 is a single-seat road car while the Monza SP2 is a two-seater, and both models run on a 12-cylinder engine and can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds, and zero to 124 miles per hour in 7.9 seconds. They have a maximum speed of 186 miles per hour which Ferrari said is a speed that is ordinarily only experienced by Formula 1 drivers.

The vehicles are equipped with the most powerful naturally-aspirated V12 ever produced by Ferrari. Thanks to specific areas of development, the power of the 812 Superfast’s 6.5 litre has been increased by 10 cv to 810 cv at 8500 rpm with a slight increase in torque to 719 Nm at 7000 rpm.

Also, extensive use of carbon-fibre has been made throughout the construction of the Monza SP1 and SP2 to make them light and responsive and to enhance their sporty, aggressive visual appeal, just like on racing cars.

In addition, both the Monza SP1 and SP2 are constructed from carbon fiber allowing them to provide the best weight-to-power ratio of any Barchetta. It is rumored that 499 cars being made, all are to be offered for sale exclusively to the company’s most dedicated clients and collectors.

So, if you consider yourself a dedicated client or collector (lucky you), then don’t forget to snatch up Ferrari’s new gem. Definitely and interesting car to own!
