The World’s First 360-Diploma Pool was Unveiled!

A new concept for the world’s first 360-degree pool has been unveiled by Manufacturer Compass Pools. Named “Infinity Pool”, it was designed for a skyscraper in London and it offers and incredible view of the city’s skylines. The structure contains 600,000-liters and would be on top of a 55-story hotel, allowing visitors to float over 200 meters above the city.

The project would be made from cast acrylic and feature transparent sides and floors, allowing visitors to see swimmers in the pool above them. The bottom of the structure would also be transparent, so it could act as a skylight. At night it would be lit up with color-changing lights.

The swimming pool has a unique way of being accessed. There will be no staircase, instead the swimmers will access the it through a rotating spiral staircase based on the door of a submarine, rising from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out.

Alex Kemsley, founder and technical director of Compass Pools, stated, “Architects often come to us to design roof top infinity pools, but rarely do we get a say in the building design because the pool is usually an afterthought, but on this project, we actually started with the design and essentially said, ‘how do we put a building underneath this?

We faced some quite major technical challenges to this building, the biggest one being how to actually get into the pool. The solution is based on the door of a submarine, coupled with a rotating spiral staircase which rises from the floor when someone wants to get in or out; the absolute cutting edge of swimming pool and building design and a little bit James Bond to boot!”

Other technology features include a built-in anemometer to monitor the wind speed, which is linked to a computer-controlled building management system to ensure the pool stays at the right temperature and water doesn’t get blown down to the streets below.

To make Infinity London more sustainable, hot air created by the building’s air conditioning system would be recycled to heat the pool using a heat exchanger. It will also would also be equipped with colored lights designed to give the tower the appearance of a sparkling jewel at night.

The plan for Infinity London is for a five-star hotel to occupy the top floors of the tower, with the pool available for guests to use. However, a location for the project has not yet been confirmed. Construction of the pool aims to begin in 2020 once partners and contractors are confirmed.
